PORTLAND, OREGON — Game Face Sports Career Training Camp attendee Whitney Martin was hired by Richmond International Raceway as a corporate sales executive. She will be responsible for selling and servicing corporate seating and premium suites for major events throughout the year, which includes NASCAR Nextel Cup Series and Busch Series races.
The job is ideal for Martin because it allows her to remain in her home town of Richmond, VA, and work in a sport she loves. She spent the weekend prior to the Training Camp attending a race at the track, which strengthened her resolve to work in motor sports. “After exploring the industry on my own I realized it is almost impossible to break in unless you have someone behind you,” said Martin. “Knowing that I was very green and that I needed to grow and develop before putting myself out there as a sports professional, I decided to attend the Training Camp. The time I spent there gave me the confidence to go home and end up in the job I wanted.”
Martin graduated from Virginia Tech in May 2007 with a degree in finance. She worked for Northwestern Mutual Financial as a financial representative intern during her last two years of school and also participated on the Virginia Tech equestrian team.
