California Speedway Drives Away from Training Camp Visit with Two Attendees

Sports Job Executives having fun at California SpeedwayPORTLAND, OREGON — Game Face Sports Career Training Camp Victoria Zahn and Jessica Brown have been placed as account executives with California Speedway, an International Speedway Corporation (ISC) track. They will market and sell season seats, group packages and other inventory throughout the greater Los Angeles area and Inland Empire for the track’s major events, which include two races with NASCAR’s Nextel Cup Series and Busch Series, as well as a Truck Series race.

Ticket Sales Director Shana Carr, a Game Face Training Camp attendee from 2004, made the trip to Portland to interview candidates on site at the Training Camp. “Game Face has been instrumental in my sports career and there was no debate on where to turn when I needed to fill my account executive openings,” said Carr. “I know a high-caliber sales executive is in-demand and difficult to find. Being a graduate of the Game Face program, I can be confident the people coming from this program are well versed in the sports sales process and can begin producing results immediately. I can’t take a chance on individuals who don’t have the same skill set.”

Both candidates grew up in Northern California and attended college in Southern California. Zahn graduated from UCLA in June 2007 with a degree in global studies, specializing in French and Latin. During her four years she worked as a recruiting assistant in the UCLA Department of Athletics, spent one year as a member of the Spirit Squad, and worked for more than two years with CIP Marketing representing the adidas brand. “Before attending the Training Camp, I networked and interviewed with a few professional sports teams as well as several college coaches. Yet I learned that my background in sports and determination alone were not enough to provide me with opportunities that fit my career needs,” said Zahn. “After interviewing with California Speedway both at the Training Camp and after I returned to L.A., I knew this was a great fit for me and I was excited to receive the job offer!”

Brown graduated from San Diego State University in May 2007 with a degree in marketing. After interning with MarineMax in the summer of 2004, she continued with the company as an executive assistant until she graduated. “Since childhood my career goal has been to work in the sporting industry. I’ve been intrigued by its highly competitive, fast-paced, and entertaining nature,” said Brown. “After numerous unsuccessful attempts to break in on my own, I decided to seek additional training at the Sports Career Training Camp. The knowledge and skill-set I gained was exactly what I needed, resulting in several interviews and multiple job offers to choose from.”
